Veggie Dog Mummies

Veggie-Dog-HeaderKneading dough is therapeutic. Which is what most mammas need after surviving Halloween parties at school. I survived three. Barely.

These veggie dog mummies are super fun and are the perfect way to get little people into the kitchen. But then again, today you may not have any little people in your house. You probably have a collection of princesses, ninjas, or dragons.

Start with turning on your oven to 425 degrees. See you’re halfway there. Now throw together 6 ingredients (recipe below) and you’ve got whole white wheat pizza dough ready for mummy making. I’ve got to run off to a community event – but don’t panic. It’s hard to mess this one up. Enjoy this easy meal for you and your little ninjas. Look for a Lightlife giveaway next week! Easy Whole Grain Pizza Dough

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup and 2 Tablespoons Warm Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Honey or Sugar
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons Yeast
  • 2 1/2 Cups White Whole Wheat Flour, plus a bit more to help you roll out the dough
  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
  • In a medium mixing bowl combine the water, honey, and yeast. Stir it around until the honey has dissolved. Next, measure out your flour, oil, and salt and combine with your yeast mixture.
  • This is a down-and-dirty dough recipe. You don't need to worry about it rising for an hour. Just let it rest a few minutes and then turn it out onto a floured surface and knead.
  • Knead the dough until it is smooth.
  • Trouble Shooting:
  • If it is sticking to your hands add a dusting of flour and knead. Repeat until the dough doesn't stick to you.
  • If it is clumpy, that means you need more water. Sprinkle water onto your ball until it easily forms a ball.
  • Using a rolling pin, roll out half of your dough into a 1/4" - 1/2" thick pancake.
  • Mummy Instructions Use a pizza cutter or other rolling blade to make thin strips for mummy wrappings. Wrap a veggie dog in a few pieces of dough and bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes.
